🗓 Summer Painting Timeline: How Long Does It Really Take?
If you’re planning to repaint your home this summer, you’re probably wondering how long the process actually takes. The answer? It depends on the home, but here’s a general timeline based on how we operate at Gullard Painting.
1️⃣ Pressure Washing — 1 Day, Plus Dry Time
We always start with a thorough wash to remove dirt, dust, mildew, and loose paint. Then we let the house fully dry, which typically takes a few days to a full week, depending on the weather and siding type. This step is key for helping the paint adhere properly.
2️⃣ Prep — 1 to 2 Days
Once the house is dry, we get to work on prep. That includes scraping loose paint, spot priming where needed, and applying fresh caulk around joints and seams. Some homes need more than others, but most average-sized homes take about a day or two to prep correctly.
3️⃣ Painting — 3 to 6 Days
This is where it really depends on the project. For standard one- or two-story homes, we’re usually painting for 3 to 4 days. On larger or more complex homes, it can stretch to 4 to 6 days, especially if the house needs extra coats, heavy priming, or has lots of trim.
We’ve even had projects that ran nearly a month. Every house is different.
4️⃣ Wrap-Up — Final Walkthrough & Touch-Ups
After painting is complete, we do a full walkaround to catch anything that needs a final touch-up. We also remove masking and clean up the site. This usually takes a couple of hours, not a full day, but an important step in finishing strong.
🧠 What to Keep in Mind
Every home is different. Some projects move quickly, others need more time and attention.
Weather matters. In the Pacific Northwest, painting windows are sometimes tighter than we’d like. We plan around it.
Prep sets the tone. Skipping this phase leads to short-lived results. We don’t cut corners.
✅ TL;DR Timeline
Day 1: Pressure wash
Days 2–3: Prep
Days 4–7: Paint
Final day: Touch-ups, clean-up, walkaround
📅 On average, you can expect us to be on-site for 5 to 7 working days, but the full timeline depends on the size, condition, and complexity of your project.
